Effusive Beauty (2009)

The Spirit's Notes: A complex mixed media artwork 18" x 12-1/2" in size. In my ongoing effort to incorporate Fine Art elements into my erotic art work, it was natural evolution that lead me to create this sensual offering as modeled by radiant Filipina beauty, Bebejoy. It was refreshing for me to get back to my roots, at least so far as the hand-painted background is concerned. That element within this composition was painted in brushed ink washes and watercolor with Tempera highlights. The central figure was first pencilled, then inked in black before being scanned. Next, the main figure of Bebejoy was digitally airbrushed in Photoshop from the ground up. What really sets this figure apart from my past figures is the almost near elimination of the 'black-inked line.' It makes for a unique look, and one that I wish to explore further in the future. Getting back to the background, and as Jim Morrison says in The Soft Parade by 'TheDoors, ' "This is the best part of the trip, this is the trip, the best part, the part I like..." The background is very experimental, plays with shape, planes, color, depth perception, and subtle visual gradations of light. That was my trip, my art, and, like a band of musicians jamming, playing in sync yet almost improvisional, taking a break from the confines of routine studio recording, I explored and expanded my boundaries of erotic art. Yes this painting is my homage to the female form, femininity and sensuality. I suppose I do not need to point out the obvious and subliminal pseudo-sexual symbols and their place in my heart as I hold the female genitalia upon a near holy pedestal of admiration and romantic obsession.

One would not expect that their can be cohesion between hand painting and digital painting. I was very conscious of this when approaching this piece, for it could easily have appeared disjointed. But because of my sensitivity towards that hazard, the image should come across as a cohesive blend of modern art techniques and innovation. I actually created two versions of this piece as I envisioned someday producing a limited edition print series of it. One version, the primary one, which captures the true essence of my original concept is featured below, the other one, sub-titled "Alternate" has the top right corner repainted to almost appear liked cracked-tile, or like old dry, cracked paint, to replace the luscious and desirable pussy (from the main painting), in order that the innuendo would be far more subtle, and less obviously in-your-face (lucky you), and be more appropriate to hang framed upon people's walls. To see a pop-up of this alternate version click here. I hope you enjoy this painting, and it's exploration of all things feminine.
