Look'n To Good (2009)

The Spirit's Notes: I have always intended to draw an African-American character into my art for the longest time, but procrastinated, because I simply did not want to draw a line art character and simply color her differently. I wanted her features and characteristics to be unique, and had found that difficult in the past. But I like to rise to challenges, and finally put my thoughts to paper, and have created this artwork which I hope is both funny and sexy, and displays my evolving and high standards for my art. In my earliest years drawing as The Spirit it seemed like the concepted idea (or subject) was my primary objective, but as I've developed and refined my art, it has changed now to 'how I convey my ideas' that is most important. That means to simply or crudely delivery my ideas is not enough, but has evolved into how I present them. That is to display along with the idea, higher levels of combined old-school drawing and painting techniques with newly developed ones from the school of life which reflect who I am today. The process of my art has become the means of delivery for my ideas, and that process of delivery has risen to the forefront of my objectives, and is now the criterion and a tactical maneuver.

Back to the subject of African-American characters in my art, I have to say that their is loving room in my handsome head to include every race into my erotic fantasies. We all know how much I love to draw Asian women, but this is my first attempt at an African-American woman. I gave her a Jimi Hendrix hair style, and she is donning her gold and purple gang colors, which was inspired by the Los Angeles Lakers basketball team uniform colors. That makes the back alleys of Los Angeles the setting for this drawing. I should also add into this description that it is quite new for me to draw an anthropomorphic animal character, as I have done with the rat in the lower left hand corner. I felt it was a humorous touch, to add to this awkward moment of light-hearted slapstick.
